Cambridge Science Training 2013

Entering our 2nd year of being an International School, we had the honour of hosting the Cambridge Learner Science Seminar for educators. The training was conducted by Dr Mark Winterbottom on 6th March 2013. The educators who joined us for the training were from Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia.

Dr Mark Winterbottom is a leading science specialist at the University of Cambridge's Faculty of Education. He trains secondary science teachers and teaches in the Master in Education degree. He has authored a number of textbooks, as well as books for teachers. Some of Mark’s recent work has focused on using ‘assessment for learning’ strategies in science lessons and using new technologies to support children’s learning in science.

During the training, Dr Mark encouraged educators to use creative activities to conduct classes. He shared a few ideas, such as using enquiry-based learning, for example class discussion, group discussion and problem solving.
