A Date with Science Freaks
On June 13th 2013, all 3 classes of Sri Emas’ Year 11 students & 4 of their teachers had a date with science. However, this time, this date wasn’t in our science labs but in the heart of Kuala Lumpur itself, at KLCC Petrosains.
We left for KLCC at around 9am spread out on two buses but upon arriving, we were told that we would still have to wait for PTS (Sirius Scholar Study Skills) students to arrive in 5 buses. That left us with a solid half hour to roam around Suria KLCC in search of some hearty breakfast.
Finally we all got to enter Petrosains at 10.30am where I was assigned to tail Tr. Ivan and a bunch of students. All in all, we spent about 3 hours at Petrosains and I found it interesting as I never really had a liking for science during my own high school years. I can actually say I learnt quite a bit by listening to Tr. Ivan’s explanations on the day.
From this outing, I could tell that our students have a great understanding of their science subjects. I think some of them probably know and understand more than what the displays at Petrosains could offer.
Now, I clearly understand why it is so important to have innovative teaching methods for students to understand their subjects and why Sri Emas’ culture of education truly works.
